Water Corporation – Sea Water Desalination Plant

Project Summary

A desalination plant capable of processing 50 billion litres per year, located within the Alkimos Water Precinct. This plant has the potential for future expansion to an additional 50 billion litres per year.

An ocean intake pipeline situated below the seabed, designed to bring seawater into the plant for processing.

An ocean discharge pipeline, also below the seabed, responsible for safely removing brine (salty water) from the plant.

A 33.5-kilometre pipeline constructed to transport the treated drinking water from the plant to the Wanneroo Reservoir. This water is then supplied into Perth’s Integrated Water Supply Scheme.

Developed and vegetated sand dunes on the western side of the Alkimos Water Precinct. These dunes are integrated into the existing natural dune system to minimize potential visual and noise impacts from the plant.

Provision for a groundwater treatment plant capable of processing 4.9 billion litres per year, along with local bores for water supply.

The Water Corporation is constructing a water desalination plant in Alkimos, WA.

They required schedule review services for the project in a short amount of time.

The Approach:

A high level schedule review was undertaken, as well as a detailed comparative schedule review and a risk coverage in the schedules.

A set of questions and a matrix were created to guide the critical review and evaluation process.
